It takes years to build a life on this planet, but the world loses one every forty seconds to suicide, according to the World Health Organisation.
Of course, behind every loss is a story that should be told.
Angry Man Pictures, an independent UK production company, is in pre-producing with Reunion, a new short drama that focuses on male mental health. The film confronts the interface of masculinity, male roles and mental health issues, sibling relationships and the pressures of living at the fringes of contemporary society.
We are collaborating with Dr Arthur Cassidy consultant psychologist
in residence at the Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention programme.
This charity is made up of unpaid volunteers who work towards the
Governments Protect 'Life Strategy' saving lives from suicide and
taking daily local GP referrals. His University of Ulster psychology
placement students work alongside him gaining practical health and
clinical experience working with depressed individuals, mainly young
to middle age men with suicidal depression and anxiety. We will be
supporting the vital work they do by providing the film for specially
coordinated screenings and support events.
Our aims is by working together we will promote the great work that
the Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention programme undertakes in Norther Ireland, so eventually similar programmes will be rolled-out across the United Kingdom saving thousands of young people’s lives on a daily basis.
If you are head of a mental health charity, a university or an official representative and would like to be involved in this project, please reach out to us via our contact page. There is no cost involved for your organisation with respect to this collaboration — we just want to help.
